Astilbe 'montgomery red' are a popular choice for shady gardens, where they perform well if given a rich, moist soil and regular watering. This midsized selection has full plumes of deep cherry red, over a bushy mound of elegant, lacy green leaves. Also thrives in containers. Fertilize in April and June. Excellent for cutting. Seed heads may be removed, or left on the plant for winter interest. Plants should be divided every 2 to 3 years, in early spring. May tolerate full sun in if given ample water. 1.5 gal
